In 1995, Doctor Renner decided to finally plant the vineyard of his dreams, planting his first eight acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Situated on a peninsula overlooking New Melones Reservoir, the land was blessed with cool afternoon breezes coming off the water, and he felt the microclimate here would lend itself to producing world-class grapes and wines. Today his dream is realized with the first release of Estate-Grown wines and Olive Oil.
The combination of top quality grapes, a wonderful macroclimate and schist soil, and a passion and talent from all involved, Renner Wines is producing top class wines that rank with the finest the region has to offer.
Nestled in a valley in the beautiful Sierra Foothills near Murphys, California, Doctor Ian Renner found paradise. With rolling hills surrounded by Lake Melones, this valley reminded him of New Zealand and so, he named it "Canterbury".
With its warm long days and cool nights the magnificent landscape provided the perfect place to create the world class wines Ian dreamed of making.
